Senior Director (m/f/d) – Translational Immuno-Oncology Permanent employee, Full-time · Hallbergmoos Pieris Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: PIRS) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company with operations in Germany and the United States. Your Tasks You will be responsible for implementing and executing the translational immuno-oncology strategy in coordination with the Chief Development Officer to deliver high value research and development opportunities. Together with your team you will be responsible for Pieris’ research efforts directed towards the discovery and development of therapeutics that function as immune modulators for the treatment of cancer, particularly focusing on the strategic design, execution and interpretation of immuno-cellular-based experiments. A strong focus will also be the implementation of biomarker strategy to ensure that early-stage clinical trials are supported with robust patient selection and pharmacodynamic markers. Lead a team of Biology Leads to support the advancement of an innovative and sustainable pipeline in immuno-oncology, from target idea through clinical proof of concept Work with project teams and Biology Leads to develop translational plans that define key project go / no-go criteria and milestones including budget and resource planning Support the evaluation and review of project plans and data. Serve as a Translational Department representative in scientific governance bodies Play a leading role in selecting new indications in this space for exploratory work (in addition to driving existing projects) Keep up to date with latest development in oncology, immune-oncology, therapeutic modalities, and competitive landscape Continuously develop the expertise in oncology and drug development within the Translational Department and across the organization Supervise and mentor all company bioinformatics / computational biology / machine learning staff in Translational Department Maintain and mentor colleagues with a high degree of scientific excellence, collegiality and personal motivation. Provide performance feedback, training opportunities, and exposure to new assignments Develop a science-driven and goal-oriented research culture that values innovation, risk-taking, teamwork and efficient delivery Evaluate preclinical / clinical-stage in-licensing and collaboration opportunities Ensure the success of key external collaborations by developing focused research plan and providing appropriate collaborative support Our Requirements Ph.D. or MD in biology with a strong background in oncology / immuno-oncology, and longstanding experience with a focus on translational research in an industry / biotech setting with clinical-stage assets with a strong publications record Experience with antibody / protein-based drug discovery; a track record of successful preclinical drug candidate delivery is preferred A track record of developing and implementing translational plans to support programs from project start through to the clinic Experience providing oversight into preparation of technical reports and nonclinical sections of documents to support IND filings and/or other regulatory documents associated with moving candidates from nonclinical to clinical environment Qualified candidates should be adept at independently designing, executing and interpreting experiments Experience developing mechanism-based preclinical and clinical biomarker and pharmacodynamic assays including experimental design, data acquisition and analysis Demonstrated ability to explore mechanisms of action, combination therapy strategies, and to elucidate biomarkers that are predictive of therapeutic response Deep understanding of translational pharmacology Understanding mechanisms of T cell, macrophage and NK cell mediated anti-tumor immunity is required Ability to analyze and solve problems, developing creative solutions and meeting project objectives The ability to work effectively as part of a team, having excellent written and oral communication skills, and being skilled at presenting research at intra- and inter-departmental meetings, as well as at conferences and meetings with external collaborators is essential Comfortable working in a fast-paced highly matrixed environment and able to operate effectively within an entrepreneurial and science-driven company environment Provide strategic and tactical input and solutions regarding translational needs ranging from individual projects to large collaborations with external vendors and academics Strong leadership skills and a high degree of independence. Experience directing and mentoring PhD level direct reports Possess the ability to appropriately challenge status quo, ensuring decisions and assumptions are based on best available information Why us?
